About Our Family

Hi! We're glad you stopped by!

Our purpose here is simple: doing what we love and loving what we do - and sharing that with others.

Who we are:

Robert

Robert is tall, dark & handsome (according to his wife!) He loves most sports, especially baseball and softball. By day, he works for a national bank. He previously worked in a high-end restaurant for about 9 years. During May-August, Robert is the coach of the church's softball team in the NCCSFL. He is also a "foodie," and likes to experiment with new creations in the kitchen.

Most of the time, Robert has many projects running concurrently. He says Kimi makes his head spin with how busy she is sometimes, but he does a pretty good job of keeping up with her! Robert prefers to take care of things on his own, and is constantly learning more about home construction in the fixer upper that he and Kimi bought in 2013, with the help and advice of industry experts and friends who have generously volunteered their time and talents.

Robert is sacrificial, and loves spending time with his wife & daughter, and he enjoys a job well-done.

Kimi

Kimi works for a local community college as a Communications Consultant in Administrative Services. She also loves sports, especially baseball and softball - but soccer is her first love! She spent 8 years working in construction before leaving the private sector. Kimi also plays softball on the church's softball team, and she serves on her church's worship team, edits & publishes the church's newsletter, enjoys a good run, and is a perfectionist. Kimi teaches piano, but she plays 7 instruments. Like Robert, Kimi is also a "foodie," and is more by-the-book with recipes than Robert.

Because of her busy schedule, Kimi says "it's hard to find time to work out, so I go out when I'm at work!" On her lunch breaks, she participates in Zumba and strength training 3 days each week.

Recently, Kimi learned how to quilt, with the help of a good friend, and they are both enjoying working together on various projects.

She adores her little girl, and tries to put others' needs ahead of her own. (This sometimes gets her into trouble!)

Elizabeth Johannah

Elizabeth is 2 years old, and she is very active! She is an only child, first grandchild and first great-grand child on all but 1 side of her families. Ellie Jo is her nickname, and she is always animated and sweet. She thinks her auntie's and grandpa's horses belong to her alone! Her favorite movies are Secretariat, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and The Parent Trap (1996).

She, like her mommy, does not like to sit still. Ellie loves to watch Sofia the First, Sesame Street and Little Einsteins on TV. Since she was 4 months old, she has attended KinderMusik, and loves it! She goes to MOPS with her mommy, and has made many sweet friends there. Ellie gets clumsy when she's tired, is very clever and loves to play in her pretend kitchen! She is the light of her mommy & daddy's lives, and she is the best thing that ever happened to both of them!

Our Fixer-Upper

The joke is that Kimi went shopping with her mother and sister-in-law and came home with a new house for her birthday in 2013.

This is no joke, actually. Kimi was running errands when her realtor called her and said, "You have to see this house!" So, they drove by it. Robert was at work, and Kimi couldn't reach him. With the prompting of her realtor and family, she put an offer in on the house, thinking they'd never get it.

She was wrong. Her offer was accepted (along with 2 other offers they put in on other properties in the area), and this was the house they chose to invest in!

The house needed some TLC. None of the lighting fixtures matched (or were even attractive), the house reeked of smoke and dust, and all of the windows except the kitchen window were aluminum with storm windows. The popcorn ceilings were disgusting, there were handicapped rails all over the house in odd places and positions (some installed with 16-penny nails required wall-rebuilding), and the paint was in sorry shape, inside and out.

There are many, many projects to do, and the punch list never seems to get any shorter. But Robert & Kimi are determined to make this a fun experience, and they love a job well-done! Some of the bigger projects they've tackled have been refinishing the hardwood floors, drywall (Kimi loves to do drywall mud, and considers it therapeutic!), installing new windows and insulating the pipes. Oh, and painting - lots and LOTS of painting!

(As a side note, Kimi loves watching Fixer Upper on HGTV, and it's her dream to someday meet Chip & Joanna Gaines, as they are a huge inspiration to her!)

Here are some pictures of the "Fixer Upper" house!

Here they are in front of the house, the day they got
the keys!

One of the best updates yet:
a new bathroom window!

Elizabeth loves helping mommy and daddy work
on the house!

One of Kimi's favorite transformations:
The repurposed awful closets in the
family room! She designed this
custom entertainment center, and a
family friend built it for them!
New window out front!
