On Friday, July 5th, Ellie Jo had her 2-month check up! TaTa came with us, because I knew that I wouldn't do well with this appointment (5 shots and an oral vaccine).
Ellie was SUCH a good baby! She let Dr. Shushan hold her and test her reflexes, and Miss Sarah (the nurse) was able to weigh and measure Ellie with no problems. :)
Our precious baby girl weighed in 11lbs., 9.5oz. and 23" long! That is nearly double her birth weight!
Poor Ellie had 3 shots in her left leg and two in her right. She cried and cried. But within 3 minutes, she was flashing TaTa & me big, gummy grins! What a champ! TaTa was saying, "Oooh, poor sweet Ellie Jo. It's okay, TaTa & mommy are here for you..." and she just gave him this big smile, and he said, "Oookaaayy...??" Lol!
I was also told that Ellie's reflexes and strength are amazing. She's already bearing weight on her legs - Dr. Shushan said, "Woah! That's like a 4-month-old thing!" Tee-hee. :)
TaTa graciously took us over to Target so I could pick up the baby Tylenol that Dr. Shushan recommended to have on hand (just in case Ellie had a fever after her shots), and I also picked up a container of Pedialyte. I had asked Dr. Shushan about giving Ellie water (especially since we'd been in a massive heat wave), and she advised against it, as Ellie gets everything she needs from my breastmilk. (We have never had to supplement. She's only ever had breastmilk). I told the doctor that I'd given her 1oz. of water on the day that the temperature hit over 95 degrees. She said that's okay, but it's better for her to have breastmilk, or if I'm really concerned, Pedialyte (as it's not empty calories, and has salt, sugar and electrolytes).
Over the past few weeks, my favorite thing about Elizabeth getting older and growing bigger is how much she smiles! She smiles all the time. It's rare that she's upset or crying - only if she really needs to eat, or has a dirty diaper. Sometimes, when she gets extremely overtired, she'll get upset. But it doesn't last long. Her smiles are so precious!
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with all the information we got from Dr. Shushan at that visit! And even more surprised that I got any pictures of Ellie Jo for her 2-month "birthday," let alone any with her smiling! Silly kid.
Enjoy the pictures!
